Oils

Vidyan translates green technologies for the production of high-value fatty acids and esters for use as intermediates in the production of fuels, cosmetics, washing and cleansing agents, surfactants polymers and lubricants.

Demand for fatty acids/esters...

originates from a growing consumer awareness about the drawbacks of using petro-based products. Global demand for green fatty acids and esters (FA/FEs) is currently driven by their increasing use in personal care products and food processing. Key products in the FA/FE market include medium-chain triglycerides, glycerol monostearate and isopropyl esters, particularly palmitate.

Production of FA/FEs...

involves hydrolyzing oil. However, the use of inorganic catalysts, high temperature, vacuum and pressure render this process energy intensive and detrimental to the environment. These drawbacks are driving the need for a green method of FA/FE production

Our Solution

Our affiliates have patented a green process to produce fatty acids/esters by the enzymatic hydrolysis of oil. This demonstrated technology, is a multi-product platform that converts fats and oils to fatty acids, acyl glycerols, sugar esters and aromatic esters using a specially modified, patent-protected biological catalyst, lipase.

Key Benefits...

This technology produces a host of fatty acids and esters without unwanted by-products or products from polymerisation. Suitable modification of the bio-catalyst, lipase, has helped reduce overall OPEX of oil hydrolysis by allowing for specificity and re-use. This process offers a green alternative to meet the increasing demand for FA/FEs.
